I looooove second chance romances, and by the transitive property, that means I loved Hawke.

Hawke and Vale had an epic young romance when he was playing in Canada, but it ended abruptly and they lost touch for 7 years, until fate brought Vale into the Cold Fury family. Immediately, the sparks flew, but both Vale and Hawke had to deal with the past.

These two were so hot together. They had such a deep rooted past, and the mutual love was obvious from the start, but the hurt feelings ran deep on both sides. Hawke was such a tender heart. The way he supported Vale, and how he reacted to what she revealed to him about that fateful night, really showed he had a huge capacity to love. I adored Hawke's relationship with Dave, Vale's dad, and again, we saw what an awesome guy he could be when he let people in.

Bennett had some gifts for us Cold Fury fans. We got some updates on Garrett and Ryker, as well as a quick check in with all the guys. **I love this aspect of companion series =)

Overall: Another solid Cold Fury book with lots of feels.

This is the fifth book in the Cold Fury Hockey series and I loved every minute of this delicious story and it is now my favorite in the series. This is a second chance romance about a hockey player and his high school sweetheart. Hawke Campbell and Vale Therrien dated for four years until Vale unexpectedly shattered both their hearts when she broke up with Hawke, just as he was leaving to play in the NHL. Hawke and Vale are thrown together again when they accept positions with the Cold Fury hockey team; Hawke as a player on the team and Vale as a trainer. A lot has happened in their lives in the seven years since they have last seen each other.

I really like Hawke. He is a tough hockey player with a big heart and Vale has always been the only woman for him. Hawke likes to have a good time and has always been a party animal. He has tried his best to forget Vale by concentrating on his hockey career.

Vale is strong and I admire her dedication to her dad. When Vale was young she was a free spirit, would do anything on a dare and she loved to have a good time as much a Hawke. Now, Vale doesn’t have time to have fun; she is serious and totally different from the young woman she was seven years ago. She is hiding things from Hawke and he still doesn’t understand why she broke up with him.

There is a lot of chemistry flowing between Hawke and Vale and it is obvious how much they love each other. Unfortunately, they were young when they fell in love and circumstances tore them apart. Now, they are thrown together again and it is hard for them to resist one another, even though they are still harboring some hard feeling. I think Sawyer Bennett is a talented writer, she knows how to write an engaging story and I enjoy all of her books. This is a captivating, emotional story with strong, genuine characters and there are also many endearing secondary characters.

Well I totally devoured this book in 1 sitting...And I am kind of less than thrilled with the end. I was totally loving the book then BAM. Hmm.....Ok, my full review will be on the blog later. Perhaps I just need to think about this book a bit more. Because it was a 5 star read until the end.

Everybody knows I love Cold Fury Hockey, and Hawke, he definitely made me melt, but then, so did Vale!



Hawke's story is very complicated, because he and Vale were together for four years when they were younger, up until the day he left Sydney for Pittsburg to play professional hockey. Then, she told him she didn't love him, and she never looked back. Fast forward several years, and they meet again, when Hawke starts playing for Cold Fury Hockey, and Vale is the new PT / physiotherapist for the club. All of his feelings of betrayal and hurt come back to the surface, while at the same time he just can't help but feel utterly attracted to her.

The story unfolds at a great pace, not too fast, nor too slow, and while most of the chapters are from Hawke's point of view, there are several from Vale's as well. And if you've been hanging out at my blog for a while, you know that second chance at love is one of my favorite tropes, there is just so many possibilities when a couple who used to have everything find each other again, older, more mature, but still partly the same people as they were before. And when that love still has the spark to ignite them again, the feels are just amazing.

Both Hawke and Vale were still weary because of their past, and they both thought the other had completely shut the door on what they had once had. Hawke's feelings were pretty straight forward, since Vale had looked him in the eye to tell him she didn't love him, then didn't answer his subsequent phone calls. What he didn't know was that later on, she had left him some messages, both on his phone and by e-mail, and she thought he didn't want to talk to her again. Another complication was that Vale was seeing someone when she came to Cold Fury, and on top of that, she was taking care of her father who had a brain tumor he was being treated for at a hospital in town.

Written in first and third person, present tense, and peppered with great dialogues, Hawke managed to show how tentative the two protagonists were now that they had a chance to make something permanent out of that young love they had shared. I really wish Vale would have shared the fact that she had sent those messages to Hawke, though, because she definitely didn't hide anything else. Her reasons for leaving Hawke were understandable, especially because they were so young at the time, with their lives also going in quite different directions. All Cold Fury fans will love this installment, both because this couple was great, and because the players who were the main characters in the prior books were still a part of the team.



It's not like I was happier to be with Vale than building a professional hockey career, but I was okay with the decision to send me back down to the "Q" and so Vale was sort of like a bonus for me.

Never in a million years thought we would ever cross paths again. And as evidenced by the hot flame of bubbling anger sitting low in my gut right now, I'm guessing that I'm still a bit pissed at her.

Don't get me wrong. Todd and I have a nice and healthy sexual relationship. Or we did when I lived back in Columbus. It was natural, safe, and, well... comfortable, I guess.
