The fourth title in the "Daily Readings" series, this book contains more than a hundred readings from the writings and speeches of Mother Teresa. A large ammount of the material has not appeared before. Included is a biographical introduction of about ten pages. 82 year-old Mother Teresa of Calcutta is one of the towering figures of the 20-century Church, a woman who has shown that the message of the Gospel is simple and yet severe in its demands. On 10th September 1945, bound for an enforced period of rest in Darjeeling, she felt called to work among the poor of Calcutta. Six years later she opened her first Home for the Dying adjacent to one of India's most famous Hindu temples, the Khaligat. In 1960 she made her first trip abroad. Her order, the Missionaries of Charity, has spread to all corners of the world, even to post-Gulf War Iraq. In 1985 Mother Teresa opened a hospice for people with AIDS in New York, soon following it with another in Washington.
