Chosen is the third book to P.C. Cast’s and Kristin Cast’s House of Night series. This book is full of teenage drama and the storyline evolving into what is happening at House of Night. I enjoyed this book but found many things I was not too fond of this time around. I think it’s due to having a teenage daughter and wanting Zoey to make better choices. 

My Thoughts: Okay. I initially gave this book 5-stars in 2009. This time around, though, I’m giving it 3.5-stars. This book made me want to throw it a couple of times because of Zoey’s choices. I had to remind myself she’s a teenager and she’s fictional. I could not connect or even feel sympathy for Zoey Redbird in this book. She drove me bonkers. Instead of involving her friends, she kept secrets from them. I know she had her reasons, but she should have trusted them. They could’ve helped her. (Reminding myself this book is fictional.) There’s also Zoey finding out her friend Stevie Rae is alive, but not the same person. Stevie Rae is not a normal fledging after dying. Stevie Rae warned her several times she changed, but she never listened. 

One of my significant issues in this book was Zoey juggling three guys: Heath (human), Erik (fledging), and Loren (grown vampire). She shouldn’t even be focusing on boys. She needs to focus on what Neferet is up to at the House of Night. I swear Zoey was stubborn! Why did she hurt, Erik?! That one hurt the most! That boy loved her!

Here are things that I did like about the book:

• Aphrodite – She grew on me in this book, especially after she help saved Zoey’s Grandma. She played a big role in this book.
• Stevie Rae – She’s not your normal fledging, but she still acts like herself (somewhat). She has always been a favorite of Zoey’s friends.
• The ending and how everything came together. It fell apart for Zoey, but it was a tremendous climax to the series (so far.) I love how authors throw in cliffhangers that make you mad-sad at the same time.

Standalone or Part of Series: It’s part of the House of Night Series.

Steaminess: Some steam in this book.

Cliffhanger: Yes.

Would I recommend this book? Yes. If you are a fan of Young Adult Fantasy and Paranormal, then this book is for you. Warning: this book goes a little over PG in this book. Zoey comes off as a teenager who needs her friends more than ever, but she’s, instead, being complicated. (I think I mentioned this several times, but just in case, I’ll repeat it for readers who have issues with characters like her.) 

I’m diving into the next book because I’m playing catchup on this series by doing a re-read. I want to know if Zoey and her friends continue to grow. I also want to know how to kick Neferet’s butt. I wouldn’t say I like her wicked ways.

This book was different than the other ones. To me I feel like this book, and the last one as I am now thinking about it, as a filler one. This one is mostly just Zoey talking about how much of a "slut and ho bag" she is turning into. Even though if you look up the definition of those two words you will know that she isn't. I also kind of didn't like the thing that she Imprinted with someone else besides Heath. I mean even Imprinting with Heath is just messed up to me. I just don't get with why she would even suck on anyone's blood just quite yet.

Though the whole thing that the only one that does end up liking Zoey throughout the book is someone that she doesn't even like. I do think though that her fleding vampyre boyfriend could have took something a little bit better but then again I always thought that maybe Erik was just too good to be true to Zoey and I was right. Though then again so far I have been right for some things that have been happening in the series. Throughout the whole book though there is only one thing that I like about it is that something good happens to Stevie Rae which I love.

I think that this book was really good, but there are some things that are now a bit out of control. 1. The keeping things from each other. Come on, when does that ever work?
2. The fact that we are now feeling bad for Aphrodite, the things she did were not just 'poor girl, had a hard life' things.
3. The language, if I have to hear 'bull poopie' one more time...
4. They multiple guys. Now I understand that sometimes life happens. But she has 3 guys she is stringing around. And to be honest it's exhausting.

Don't get me wrong I really like the book, it fits really well with the previous two, and to be honest I'm glad I am reading them back to back because I think they flow right into each other.

Book three.

Hmm. The way the authors re-tell the story from the previous book is getting tedious. They drag it out and try make it a part of the story as if the readers don't already know what's happened. I'm pretty sure no one is going to start reading The House of Night Series from the third book. And I'm sure that the explanation doesn't need to take so long to go over. It's just annoying and makes the readers feel like they're being talked to like they're a little kid or as if they're stupid.

When I first started reading this series I loved how mature all the characters were, I loved that Zoey was so independent. I loved that there was excitement for a potential romance and a mystery. In book three all of this is thrown out of the window, Zoey has three boyfriends which seems kind of silly and the fact is she leans on all of them for support. Erik her vampyre boyfriend starts acting jealous, which I get, but it's in such an immature and unsexy way that it makes me roll my eyes and wonder where the confident sexy Erik from book one went. After all he is nineteen. Not sixteen. Heath and their 'relationship' is just plain annoying. And we can all tell there's something highly suspicious about Loren. But of course Zoey is too mesmerized by his sexiness to notice. It gets highly annoying.

Zoey's 'friendship' with Aphrodite is also getting annoying. It's obvious they trust each other yet they both act like they hate each others guts. I guess I find this rather immature. The way the twins talk just gets on my nerves. And Damien is still cute. But he alone can't save my opinion from the other characters.

So I feel like all I've done is complain. Well that's because so many things about this book annoyed me. All of these things were in book one and that was fine because we hadn't read them yet, there were in book two which was okay because it was only the second book. Now it's book three and it's getting very repetitive and annoying.

But I still was entertained by the story. I read this book in one night. And I didn't skim anything. It was a good read apart from all the annoyances I labelled above. Although this story felt like it was based more on romance rather than the actual story which I didn't like.

I guess I also find that the time periods of these books are a little weird. They happen over a few days. Relationships start and end in three days. It's just weird. Why not over a week or two at least?

The ending was rather interesting though. So interesting that I'm all geared up to read book four even though I had planned to read something else next. On the book four! And here's hoping that it's written a lot better than this book!
