The author of this book argues that we are all victims of body traps. They arise from anguish over how we look, anxiety over what we are doing to make ourselves attractive, feelings of shame for worrying about it, and ignorance about how to free ourselves. After 20 years of research into eating disorders and obesity, as well as studying people of normal weight, the author has come to realize how many of us fall into such traps as dieting rituals, vanity, shame, success and competition and as a result compromise whole areas of our lives. Case histories are included to illustrate the various points raised.
