I stumbled into this series by first reading one of the spinoffs - [b:Boss in the Bedsheets|53667619|Boss in the Bedsheets|Kate Canterbary|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1590858113l/53667619._SX50_.jpg|73344216] and was surprised how moving the story was; even though I was mainly interested in some hot and steamy scenes (we are in a global pandemic jeez what else am I gonna do for fun besides stay at home and read?!?) I decided to start the Walshes series immediately after finishing Boss in the Bedsheets and have read one a day for the past several days. . . Look, I came to this series for some smut - fine judge me all you want. What I did not effing expect was to be so goddamned gutted reading these books. Erin's story finally comes out and it is sooo heartbreaking. But damn if it isn't an incredibly touching addition to the already rich series. Dang it [a:Kate Canterbary|8345486|Kate Canterbary|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1495763888p2/8345486.jpg]! You got me again!
I don't know what it is about the Walsh women, but their stories have been very emotional for me. I know the entire family suffered at Angus' hands, but I feel as though Erin and Shannon suffered the most, and because of that, had the most to overcome.
Erin's story simply blew me away! I was hooked from the very first chapter. I mean, with a bombshell like that, who wouldn't sit up and listen?! Watching Nick and Erin's love story unfold for over two years was a most wonderful experience. These two were so beautiful together, and caused me to shed lots and lots of tears, many of which were happy tears. I always liked Nick, but in this book, I fell in love with Nick. His backstory was pretty amazing, and man!, he is so swoony.
I also liked the amount of focus Canterbary gave to Riley. We saw the not-so-happy-go-lucky side of him in this book, and I think it's a great set up for his story.
Before I knew about this pairing, I was thinking Canterbary could do a book for Nick, as an honorary Walsh sibling, but that hope is now gone. I will be very sad when I read my last Walsh book, as this is a series and a family I have grown to love.
