Whilst I loved meeting the old gang, I felt this was the weakest in the series for me. I was not overly interested in the story and it got a bit confusing in places to what was happening. Plus it didn’t help that Jeff (the narrator) spent a lot of his time voicing Jack with a shout, rather than talking. It got a bit off-putting.

The opening scenes of this book were horrific and I think because I listen to these books and not read them, I find it worse. This book was also a bit more gruesome and Reacher seemed a bit colder and calculated than before. It was a stronger reminder that you do not mess with the special investigators!

I thought how Neagley contacted the old team was great, and to be honest I loved having her back in the book (We first meet her in Without Fail). It was nice to meet the team, not all of them could make it, but nevertheless meeting them in flashbacks made you feel for them, flesh them out and become real people for us to care about.

Reachers deductions, this time, seem a little bit far-fetched and I was not sure how he reached some of his conclusions or squeezed into a small space in a helicopter! It seemed one minute we did not know who anyone was, their involvement and the next Reacher had it all figured out. These people broke his toothbrush so we needed to have revenge! The so-called romance felt forced here like we needed a romance rather than letting big things progress naturally.

It was interesting to see how we are moving forward with the times, and how Reacher the loner, the drifter, has to now adjust to a life where he has to have an ATM card so now he has to carry this, his toothbrush and his passport. Which he is really not happy about!

Bad Luck and Trouble (11th of 18 Reacher Novels)

You do not mess with the Special Investigators – in this Reacher novel we see Reacher back together with his old team of elite army investigators.
Reacher finds out about the brutal death of a one of his old team mates and soon the remaining members reunite to solve a mystery that’s bigger than them.

I don’t know why I wasn't as sucked into this book as much as the other three I’ve read. I’m assuming the reason was that in this novel you learn quite early on that this will be a revenge mission for the most part and you know Reacher will survive as Lee Child went on after this book to write another 7 Reacher novels. I guess there wasn't anyone for me to care about him saving, no innocent man or pretty ladies. It’s strange because in the worlds current condition the ‘mystery’ should have meant more to me than any pretty lady, hmmmm.

Now don’t get me wrong I enjoyed it, it was still a page turner and I still want to read all eighteen and I still think Lee Child is an awesome writer but this one just didn't grab me as much as the others – I’m baffled & would love to know what others thought.
