High school senior Meg revels in being a rebel. She sports choppy blue hair, and tight t-shirts, cuts class, and is often found where she's not supposed to be. Like hanging out on a railroad-tracks-covered bridge that's off-limits to trespassers. When she and her friends are busted for trespassing and underage drinking, she's sentenced to spend her spring break riding along with a rookie police officer on his nightshift patrol. Compounding the punishment is the fact that the cop, John After, is only two years older than Meg, and a former classmate to boot. He thinks he has Meg's number and has nothing but contempt for her childish rebellion. Meg in turn has nothing but contempt for Officer After's straight-laced, by-the-book attitude. But Meg has her reasons for lashing out, and John has his reasons for his need for law and order. And they're about to discover that they have a lot more in common than either one of them could have dreamed...

Sadly, I don't have much to say about Going Too Far. It's not too bad, but it wasn't anywhere close to wow. It was kind of sweet, the romance blossoming between the two. It was interesting to see why Meg was so set on being a little crazy and getting out, and why John - known in the book by his surname, After - was so vigilant in making sure people obeyed the law. After was all tough and hard in the beginning, but seemed to recover from his anger fairly easily after Meg had wound him up. He got past things too easily, and it was a little annoying. But a sweet story overall.

Anyway, this is a NA lovestory, which has more to it than meets the eye. It was a true pleasure to read about. I would've wanted a bit more of understanding and a little less hysteria. Then again, I probably acted the same way when I was 17.
The ending was a bit too fast paced for my liking, because after all, it took quite a few pages for the story to pick up.
The characters were loveable and complex, which are to things that I love. I liked both Meg and John, and the minor characters as well. It took some time, but in the end I was rooting for them. At the beginning I was rather skeptical, because somehow it seemed forced and "wrong," but fortunately that changed.
The writing of this book was good. It was detailed, yet easy to read. It took no time reading this book. This would make for a good beach read!
I liked this book a lot, but it didn't have that last thing to get the fifth star. It's a solid 4 stars from me!
