I have mixed feelings about KA's heroes (come back later this week and see how I felt about Tack...) but I actually really loved Mitch in Law Man! He wasn't an asshole; he had wanted Mara for years but thought she was too shy. When circumstances finally allow him to step into her life, he takes the chance. He was assertive but not domineering. Throw in her adorable second cousins and you have a great story.
Mara had a rough upbringing but she moved past her struggles in life and made something of herself. She has some issues with her self esteem due to her mother, and there were times that hearing her talk about her 'rating system' got a bit tiresome. Mostly because while she felt she was a 2.5, she obviously wasn't. Another gorgeous heroine who doesn't realize she is gorgeous? Wow...what a surprise. Didn't see that coming...ugh. I initially liked Mara because I thought she was 'normal'. Imagine my disappointment when I realized she was stunning and not like us normal girls at all.
There is plenty of action to keep you sucked into the plot and this book certainly kept me up late! I loved the relationship between Mara and Bud and Billie. The kids obviously love their cousin and she obviously loves them. Mitch steps into the picture and loves them all too. It was a delightful to see these 4 people create an unconventional family that was so devoted to each other.
While my feelings about KA tend to be mixed (mostly about her 'heroes'), I loved Mitch and Mara's story. If you want a hero who isn't a douchecanoe, Mitch is your guy. Throw in 2 adorable kids and the Russian mob and you have a whopper of a story!
- POV: 1st (all Mara, except a few sections in 3rd person)
- Tears: no
- Trope: family drama, police
- Triggers: none
- Series/Standalone: standalone within an interconnected series
- Cliffhanger: no
- HEA: yes, with the most adorable epilogue EVER!
other books featuring cops like Buried Lies by Kaylea Cross, Until Cobi by Aurora Rose Reynolds, Control and Cuffed by K. Bromberg...then you will probably like Law Man!
