I read this out loud to my 4yo daughter, she really enjoyed it and was happy to sit and listen to the whole thing over two sittings (I think she would have preferred it in one sitting though, she likes books).

Each chapter is quite short and the words are simple to read and understand, but not so simple that it won't introduce some vocabulary and variety to young readers. Though I read this one aloud to my pre-reader, this would make an excellent beginner reader chapter book - which is of course what it actually is. Since my daughter enjoyed listening to and looking at this book, I think I will try to use this series as readers for her when she gets to that stage.
