It had grown increasingly obvious with each Charlie Parker book that this is no ordinary detective procedural series. Each book has been slowly and subtly building on the previous ones, building up a mythology that suddenly comes roaring out in full force in book #8. The Lovers serves up answers and more mysteries and is a rewarding experience for any longtime Charlie Parker fan. I'm slightly despairing at the fact that I've now almost caught up with the current point in the series, which means that after I finish the one sitting on my nightstand, I'll have to wait until 2011 for the next one.
