4.5 stars - COYER Fall Scavenger Hunt item #43, last book in the series

What a great conclusion to the series! While there were some pieces that matched what I had suspected from book 1, there were also some great surprises. I hope that there will be some spin off books - there's definitely room for them.

This book continues with challenging the obvious good / bad dichotomy of Heroes / Villains which I loved. Friendships are really challenged in this book, as are loyalties. This is a really epic conclusion in terms of the action and plot as well. I don't want to say a whole lot because I feel like there's so much space for spoilers if you haven't read previous books yet. I buddy read this with Lillian (Sort of, she was finished way before me) and constantly was sending messages about predictions and "OMGs!"

I listened to this and the narration absolutely bumped this book up a notch. While I love both Rebecca Soler and Dan Bittner, I have to say Bittner stole the show in this final book. His voicing for Ace Anarchy was particularly chilling! So glad I decided to listen over reading.

Just like a Marvel movie, Supernova is an entertaining, rollercoaster ride full of suspenseful action scenes and terrifically choreographed fights! The ending, however, is slightly confusing and leaves much to be desired. 

What I Liked: 

• I loved the story's theme: that not everybody is either strictly a hero or a villain. Not everything is black and white; sometimes there is a whole lot of gray. People are more than their stereotypes. -This trilogy really explores the political side of superheroes and their superpowers. I enjoyed how Meyer didn't shy away from asking hard questions, such as the ethical nature of capital punishment. More than anything, this series was a study in ethics and morals, and is a wonderful foil for the political climate today.
• ADRIEN AND NOVA!!! 💛💛 I wasn't sold on their relationship for the first part of this series, but by the end of it all, I was rooting for them big time. I loved the tension that all the secrets, the lies, and the alter egos created. Adrien and Nova's relationship gives me such Miraculous Ladybug vibes, and if you know me at all, then you know I'm total sucker for Miraculous Ladybug.
• Despite being over 500 pages long, Supernova never has a dull or slow moment. Meyer truly knows how to write climactic and engaging action scenes that leave you wanting more.

What I Liked...Less: 

• The ending was a bit rushed and unclear to me; it took me awhile to understand exactly what happened with Max and the supernova and all that. And I'm not sure how I feel about everybody having superpowers as an ending. It seemed anticlimactic after we've spent the entirety of the book with Agent N. It also made Adrien's sacrifice less impactful. With Max absorbing everyone's powers, his character became too much of a deus ex machina for my taste. 
• The prologue was an... interesting choice. Although I like this unforeseen twist, it makes me wonder if Meyer plans on writing a spin-off series. Because if not, the final words of this book seem to go against the whole theme of this series.
• Meyer spends a lot time discussing how not all villains are evil, and not all heroes are good. She specifically goes out of her way to humanize the Anarchists and help the reader understand that they're also fighting for a noble cause, in their own way. But then Ace, Honey, and all the rest of the Anarchists go completely evil at the end. And The Council ends up being the conventional "good guys." This narrative choice weakened the power of her message, in my opinion.

That epilogue! I really hope Marissa Meyer writes at least a novella about it to give us more closure. They both need to know!

Marissa Meyer never seems to disappoint. All throughout this series I always wondered how one problem or action would lead to the next, and how Nova and Adrien could be so close to each other but yet know so little.

Reading Supernova I finally got the full extent of both their lives being so intertwined without either of them knowing it until it was too late. I won’t spoil anything, but just know that this book is everything it needed to be and more. The characters were all set and ready to play their roles, and the stakes were the highest they had ever been. I wish we could have more in this universe, especially with the Epilogue that’s in the end, but I loved the ending, so I can’t complain much. Thank you Marissa Meyer for creating this story so intricately woven together, and I can’t wait to see what you dream up next.

THIS. SERIES. IS. EVERYTHING. Everything you could ever want with action, tension, drama, romance, and suspense. This series has it all! I love the world that Marissa has created! Her writing is flawless and her characters are the bomb.com. I hope there will be more books in the future because I'm not ready to say goodbye. You guys, if you haven't read this series, please do yourself a favor and (binge) read them all! You won't be disappointed!
