Jase and Kazi were perfect. I was missing the Remanent series and this spin-off takes us back with new character and just enough distance to not get too caught up in what happened before. Can’t wait to see what happens next.

Dance of Thieves takes place in the same world as the Remnant Chronicles, only about 6 years later. I liked Remnant ok, read all the books, but never really LOVED it like a lot of people did. I never "bonded" with the characters as much as I like to. But I liked the world and the writing style, so when I had the chance to read Dance, I shrugged and figured why not?

I LOVED Dance. I think it had more to do with having a bit more of a narrow focus than Remnant, both in terms of the world and the number of characters, so I was able to really invest in their stories and lives. We really focus on Jase and Kazi, and who they are and what makes them the fantastic people they are. This does include those close to them, and the supporting cast was really well done as well.

I wouldn't classify either Jase or Kazi as "good guys" so much as people trying to live in the situations they were born into. In fact, in some stories they could both be classified as villains, but they have so many redeeming moments, followed by poor choices (not because they are stupid, but because with what information they have they don't really have options), followed by another redeeming moment, etc.

You don't HAVE to read Remnant before reading Dance, but it does help set up the world better, and of course some events from Remnant would be spoiled for you, just because of the nature of the story.

My only regret was listening to this so far ahead of the release that I didn't have anyone to discuss the book with when it ended! So, know that I am here to discuss with you when you finish. Because I definitely recommend you read Dance of Thieves! I promise you it is worth it.
