Just like the previous book, I would recommend reading Eternal Kiss of Darkness after Destined For An Early Grave, as there are some spoilers included. But if you just want to jump into Mencheres and Kira's story, you can since previous events are briefly recapped so you get all of the important bits. Like why Mencheres is out to get himself killed, causing Kira to find him, rescue him, and get tangled up in the dangerous world of vampires.

I really enjoyed Eternal Kiss of Darkness! I've found Mencheres interesting since we first met him in the main Night Huntress books, so it was great getting to know him better. I also really liked Kira. She's a private investigator after trying to become a cop didn't work out. However, she still works hard to save lives when she can, which is why she couldn't ignore Mencheres' screams that fateful night. I liked how level-headed and believable she was when he essentially took her captive. She knew it was wrong, but she also knew that she couldn't go on with this supernatural knowledge and live a normal life. Obviously, she's going to have to though.

The plot of Eternal Kiss of Darkness was fast paced, fun, and exciting. There's a lot going on here! Mencheres is still convinced that he's destined to die soon, but he can't leave this world without making sure that Kira is safe after she risked her life for his. He also has to make sure that his vampires and others under his protection are well taken care of (cue some cameos from Cat and Bones!). And most importantly, he needs to take out Radje: the crooked vampire law enforcer who is holding a centuries old grudge.

In the end, Eternal Kiss of Darkness was a great read. I'm loving getting to know the side character's stories and seeing what else is happening in this world away from Cat and Bones, and yet still being fully connected.

Mencheres just doesn't do it for me. I am happy he is happy, but *shrugs* I don't know. I guess he is too old for me. Who knew I had a vampire age limit? Lol

Update: 7/3/11 - This was very painful to read this time around. I just did not care about what was happening at all. Once again, I couldn't get into Mencheres or Kira. Mencheres is supposed to be this big, bad vampire, but I never felt he was all that impressive. He's probably my least favorite character in this series. I really don't have much to say about Kira either. Vlad left more of an impression on me than the main two characters and he played a very small role in the story. 2.5 stars

I really couldn't warm up to Mencheres or Kira. I'm not really sure what it was that didn't work for me, but I did like the story.

I love the world that Jeaniene Frost has created with her Night Huntress series, and have really enjoyed getting to know the side characters better in the Night Huntress World series.

I read this book in an afternoon, and quite frankly blew right through it. In many ways, the story was over too soon, but I think that’s more because I read the book straight through with few interruptions rather than the book itself. I lacked time to mull the story over in my head and really become connected to the book. (note to self: slow down next time) This is a typical Jeaniene Frost book though, which means that it’s awesome.

I really enjoyed getting to know Mencheres and Kira. They don’t quite have the same snark as Cat and Bones (but really, who could?), but I still connected with them. After the previous books, there seemed to be a lot of mystery surrounding Mencheres, and this gave us a chance to know him better. You got the feeling that behind all that power was a lot of responsibility, and a tortured soul that you had to love. Mencheres handles it well. Kira was a good match for him.

WOW! this book was great, Mencheres though he'd lost all that he had and was willing to give up his life, before he met Kira and then BAM WOW, it all changed gave him new hope which is great, because you can't really have a Cat and Bones story with out him, just like you can't without Spade, Vlad, and even Ian. Can't wait until the next book in the Night Huntress World comes out, especially can't wait for the next Night Huntress book to come out.

It was a little slow in the beginning, and took me a while to get into. However, once I got into it, it was great. Nice to see another side to Mencheres, and I truly hope we'll see more of Kira - even in Night Huntress books.

I am a huge fan of Cat and Bones from the Night Huntress series by Frost, and I'm missing reading about them. However, her Night Huntress World stand alones are just as good, and more than enough to tide me over. Eternal Kiss of Darkness is no exception; another brilliant novel!

In each of the Night Huntress World novels we follow important side characters Cat and Bones know. In Eternal Kiss of Darkness, we follow Mencheres. Bones' grandsire and co-ruler of their lines, and a hugely powerful vampire, and how his life is turned around by Kira. It's such a great story!

As fans of Frost's novels will know, as well as romance, there is also more to her stories,, and in this book, it's a life long feud betweeen Mencheres and Radjedef, law gaurdian (vampire cop in other words) and powerful vampire. There is the normal actin and suspence, and it's a brilliant plot with a lot of real Egyptian history involved, but this story did focus a lot more on the romance. It was more paranormal romance than urban fantasy, which I would describe Frost's other novels as. There was a lot more sexual content in this book than in Frost's others - or more than I remember there being. I'm not a huge fan of a lot of sexual content, but it's not over done in this book; it didn't get annoying or boring, which I usually find when reading novels with an excess.

I am amazed at how Frost is able to keep track of all the different plot threads she has going in all her books. The set up for Eternal Kiss of Darkness began in At Grave's End - three published books ago. It's brilliant how the smallest detail can lead to a whole story later on, how author's can think so far ahead and slip in seeds for a later book. Just brilliant!

As I said, another brilliant novel from Frost, and one I highly recommend. I can't wait until the fifth Night Huntress novel with Cat and Bones, This Side of the Grave, which will be released in February 2011.

I am not a huge fan of Mencheres, but this book was pretty good. I miss Cat and Bones. I cannot wait for their next book to come out. I am also hoping for a Night Huntress World book on Vlad. That would be a great book.
