The feels! This series just... I love it. So sad it's over, but I loved the way it ended.

So because I felt like the second book was ok, I've been putting off reading this book (I've had it since it came out). I was surprised. It was actually a really good trilogy ending and I was not disappointed. Between the romance, the suspense, the heart-stoppers and the joy, it was a wild emotional roller coaster that kept me from putting the book done. The book was really fast passed and from the minute I started reading, I was in a fast racing car, that speed up at each chapter and and didn't stop till the end. The only 2 things I didn't like were 1) the fact that i had to stop at each duke name and look in the back of the book to see who they were. And 2) the deaths Marni and Patti


Rating: Over all, a thrilling trilogy with a satisfying ending.

I spent 2 hours this morning zooming through this book. After waiting so long for the conclusion to the Sweet Trilogy, I was worried it wouldn't stand up to the hype. But it did, and more! Excitement and sexy romance on practically every page of this non-stop adrenaline rush. Sad that it's over, but definitely plan on rereading the trilogy just to get more Kai, Kope, and Blake.

Sweet Reckoning kind of ended how I feared it would: not that intense. From book one, I expected an epic WAR between heaven and hell. Imagine a war like the one in His Dark Materials. Huge, intense, all-encompassing. Sweet Reckoning didn't have a war. If anything, it had one small battle at the end. But it wasn't even a battle.. it was an argument.. inside a club VIP room. The lack of a larger, overall war made the whole conflict feel a bit trivial.

I wanted the whole book to be one epic war, but really it was just a lot of waiting, hiding, and romancing.

I hope this won't be too sensitive of a subject to bring up, but I kind of took issue with the "no sex before marriage" part of the book. Basically the idea is that Anna has to be "pure" in order to fulfill the prophecy. If she has sex with Kaidan, a man she loves, before marriage, she will become "impure" and not be able to fulfill the prophecy. But if she has a halfass, non-legal wedding with him first and then has sex with him, it's totally fine. I just think that whole idea is ridiculous. Failing to say a few words before having sex doesn't make you any less pure.

Throughout most of Sweet Reckoning, I sat there trying to figure out if I was enjoying it a bit, or if I thought it was silly. There was a lot of fussing over romance and pregnancies that had me rolling my eyes at times. But I must admit that some parts of the book were enjoyable. Sometimes Kaidan annoyed me, how he was CONSTANTLY thinking about sex. It was hot at first, but honestly it got so old. But other times, I really adored him and Anna together. Like when they got married! Parts of the actual wedding annoyed me, but the wedding night was SO sweet!

Ultimately I guess I was stuck somewhere between disappointment and mild amusement. I swung back and forth too many times for me to figure out a good "average", which is why it's so hard for me to actually rate this book. I don't think it was bad, it just never got as huge, epic, or monumental as I thought it would be. Plus I hoped there would be more involvement from heaven/angels, but they were absent the entire time. I feel like that entire part of the plot just never developed. It was all about the demons, but I expected the angels to actually get involved at some point, or at least show their faces, and that never happened other than Anna meeting her mom for about 2 seconds.

I just hoped for something a lot more "epic" and it never got there. The romance between Kaidan and Anna remained mostly sweet and fun to read, but I wanted a lot more from the plot/conflict than we ever got.

I’m a big fan of the Sweet series and with very good reason. These books are amazing and I was dying to read the conclusion of the trilogy. Sweet Reckoning was awesome!

The pace of the previous books, especially the second was very slow. Sweet Reckoning is fast paced and has more action than its predecessors. The nephilim are running out of time to face the Dukes and change their fate. They are putting all their players on the board and counting their moves very carefully.

Anna is wonderful, as always. She is afraid, I mean, who wouldn’t? BUT she has faith on what she is meant to do and has a great group of friends that support her. Also, things ended up really good between Kaidan and Anna in Sweet Peril and I was so looking forward to see where it went from there.

Kaidan is, as in any of the other books, extremely protective, loyal, cocky, and handsome as ever. I find so attractive a man that is no afraid to show his feelings. He’s crazy about Anna and he’s not afraid to show it and shout it to the world. Something incredibly exciting happens in Sweet Reckoning and I’m so happy for Anna and Kaidan! This get downright steamy and hot in this book, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

I’ve always loved the relationship between Patti (Anna’s adoptive mom) and later with his dad. The rest of the nephilim are all in attendance, Kope, Blake, Zania, Ginger and Marna. Also, Jay, Anna’s best friend, has a bigger role this time around. I’m really fond of all these characters and I really sad that I won’t get to enjoy their story again.

There were two things that prevented me from giving Sweet Reckoning five stars – the lack of the epic battle I was expecting and how the ending was too tidy. However, that doesn’t mean that it’s all happy at the end, so let me just say that I did cry. A bit. I really love Higgins’ writing and I have from the first book. The plot is a bit more intricate as we try to figure out who is good and who isn’t.
