Fun Middle School fantasy, with cute illustrations.

I think Cressida Cowell's books just aren't for me. They're simply just 'fine'. [I do love the HTTYD movies though.]

LOVED David Tennant's narration. I need to discover other books he narrates (besides Cowell's).

I don't mind full sound effects in books as long as it's consistent. The sound effects in this audio were jarring since it felt out of place? They always startled me even though I caught on they were in the book.

This was such a cute middle grade book, very feel good and whimsical. Even though Xar was a young boy protagonist, I was able to connect with him because of his upbringing and trying to please his dad despite not being able to cast magic. Nothing really wowed me and stood out necessarily, which is why I gave it a 4, but a very enjoyable, solid read.
