From the few books that I've read from the Misadventures series, this one is my absolute favorite! I was completely hooked from beginning to the end, from the characters and the storyline, it was everything that I was hoping for and more. I was raging from what Vera's ex-husband and ex-best friend did to her and their kids to complete and utter hope for Vera to find her happy ever after again with Lincoln.
Toni totally hit it out of the park with Misadventures with a Manny! I read it all in one-sitting and was just so sad when this beautiful story was over. I've been in a reading slump for a while and this definitely helped me get out of it.
I felt absolutely horrible for what Vera had to go through with her trash of an ex-husband, she didn't deserve any of that at all. And it was just so heartbreaking to see her go through that and keep a strong face for her kids. However, I'm all about signs and things happening for a reason. And one of the next best things to happen in her life was Lincoln entering it. You will not love a hero more than with Lincoln, swooping into Vera's life at just the right time. Helping out with her kids and just being a male figure in their lives.
I was curious to see how long it would take for things to unfold between them because they fought it for a lot longer than I anticpated them to. The attraction was instant from when they first set eyes on each other. But I totally understand they didn't want to cross that line because employee/employer.
As Lincoln fights his feelings for his boss, we get to see his vulnerable side. He opens up about what he wants with his future, marriage and kids. He wants all of that, so there's something holding him back from pursuing Vera because would she even want that, when she already had it? Ahhh, Lincoln is just pure perfection! He's amazing with the kids and doesn't hold back when he needs to be stern with them. And I love how he constantly tells Vera that she's worth so much and more.
I hated every scene with Vera's ex, he was just downright horrible to her and it made one to seek some violent tendencies towards him. And I thought Vera did a great job trying to be as civil as possible to him even when she was the one that hurt the most from his mistakes. She's an unbelievably strong woman and such an amazing mother! I loved her character so much and there were so many times when I wanted to reach into the pages and hug her!
Everything about this book was beautiful and I just loved it so much, everyone needs to read this!
