What another delightful read from The Lady Janies! While I didn't quite enjoy this one as much as My Lady Jane, I thoroughly enjoyed my time reading this book and it was the perfect distraction for some tough stuff going on IRL.

I've never read the original story, yet. But I really liked this version of Jane Eyre.
Fun, eventful and even with suspense. It was a very entertaining read with well written characters.

😬 this is a hard one and I REALLY wish there were half stars. I ADORED My Lady Jane, and I really wanted to love this one just as much - but I didn’t. Honestly, I read about half, put it down, and didn’t have much desire to pick it back up again. Not that I hated it, just thought it was simply okay. I mainly picked it up bc I’m so close to my Goodreads goal and had a couple books I just hadn’t finished. Whatever works, right? 🤷🏻‍♀️ and I glad I did because I honestly did end up enjoying it. I just can’t quite justify 4 stars because I was able to put it down for so long and it wasn’t quite up there with its predecessor, but 3 seems to few. So a solid 3.5

Though it took me a while to get into it, it was an enjoyable and just plain fun read. The dry wit, deadpan delivery, and breaking of the 4th wall makes it worth a read. I’ll admit I’ve never read Jane Eyre (😱) but was familiar enough with the basics to follow. Also, gotta love all the varying pop culture references (here’s looking at you Princess Bride and Harry Potter). Overall, definitely enjoyable and if you want a fun, easy read - definitely go for it.

I thought this was a lot of fun. Silly? Yes, but still tons of fun.

Things I loved:
• The time period was one, which never fails to delight me, with all its prim and proper ways.
• I utterly adored Charlotte and Alexander. Those two really won me over.
• Really dug the whole Ghostbusters thing they had going on
• I had the MOST fun finding all these fun little nuggets, that were buried in the book.

Once again, I have not read the source material, but I think we all know enough about Jane Eyre to recognize the important bits.

Overall: Another fun and fanciful romp with the Janies.

This. Was. So. Much. Fun.

Just a few things to note: You don't need to read My Lady Jane before reading this. You also don't need to read Jane Eyre before reading this book. I do highly recommend both books but I don't think they're totally necessary for your enjoyment. They will simply enhance the story for you.

I actually love the fact that it wasn't just a Jane Eyre retelling with additional materials added to it. It definitely uses Jane Eyre as a basis for the story but the authors run wild with it in the best possible way. Charlotte Bronte and family even make an appearance in the story which was cool.

Much like My Lady Jane, the ladies shed light on what the ~real~ story is. In our case, Jane Eyre isn't simply the story of a governess falling for the master of the house. It's the story of the Society doing everything to recruit Jane into their services. As you know dear reader, that isn't the entire story. No more from me! You'll need to read the story.

I know the humor isn't everyone's cup of tea. It was 100% my jam though. Ridiculous adventures, silliness,. Examples of humor:

"My name is Alexander Blackwood. You killed my father. Prepare to--"

"He keeps it locked in a room guarded by a three-headed dog, which drops into a pit of strangling vines, followed by a life-or-death life-size game of chess, which opens into a room with a locked door, and a hundred keys on wings.."

If fun easter eggs and frequent comments to the reader aren't your thing, you might pass on the book. If those are your thing, READ THIS BOOK NOW.
