This was good. Not great, but then, I haven't enjoyed Neil's MG as much as I'd hope. He's still a master storyteller, but it's obvious that I wasn't the target audience. Chris Riddell's art work is incredible here though, and I still like the concept of this quirky adventure.

Also, so me. At 5 I sat my mom down and said we had to talk. I said Santa isn’t real, mom, is he? She goes, clearly a bit panicked, why would you think that honey?! I said well for one, we keep the front door locked at night and have no chimney. Number two, is Santa can’t possibly have the exact same wrapping paper and handwriting as you and dad, mom. ;-). She was holding her breath during my little shpeal and then finally exhaled when I was done. She said, you really are too smart for your own good, Ashley.

Haha; Then I said so about the tooth fairy and Easter bunny...

It is a very light read (it's a children's book after all) but you definitely "enter" the book, the story is very well told albeit intentionally far fetched, the illustrations are brilliant. Perfect for giving to a child who is just starting reading more complex stuff, or to read for a child, or simply to read in a rainy afternoon with a cup of tea!

Terribly silly. Doesn't quite live up to the standards I'm used to by Neil Gaiman. But maybe I'm just not good with children's books.

As a huge fan of Neil Gaiman I have been looking forward to reading this newest children’s book which is being released this fall.
I had the opportunity to attend one of Neil’s book signings earlier this month in Toronto at The Danforth Music Hall, where we got to listen to him read a small passage from this delightful book. It is quite a thing to be in a room with roughly 1200 adults giggling and laughing at a man reading a children’s book about a dad going out to get his children some milk and ending up on a hot air balloon with a talking, airship flying, time traveling stegosaurus, also includes some pirates, volcano gods, wumpires and green slimy, snotty, attitude challenged aliens.
The eBook edition I was loaned did not include Chris’s artwork but if the cover is any indication, they will be spectacular.
Oh, and be careful when you go out for milk for your breakfast or tea and if you look up and see something round and shiny hovering over head just get the milk and get home quick.
