A Daughter of Today by Sara Jeannette Duncan, 1894. This new novel by Mrs. Everard Cotes (Sara J. Duncan) is a most readable one and has marked merits. The author has had wide opportunities which she has also been a close student of types, and is keen and graphic in her portrayal of them. She has gained an intimate knowledge of the Latin quarter in Paris and of life there, and of life in the Fleet st. locality of London. But John Kendall, the hero, and Miss Bell the heroine, of her latest novel are not pleasant characters, and the denouement is anything but satisfactory. One finishes the story which ends with the suicide of the heroine with anything but an agreeable feeling. Sara Duncan (1861-1922), was a Canadian author and journalist. She was the daughter of Charles Duncan of Brantford, Ontario. She was born in Brantford, Ontario in 1862. She was educated at the Collegiate Institute in Brantford, Ontario.
