The Marriage Lie started out AMAZING! I was totally hooked. Glued to the pages. Couldn't put it down. Loved everything about it.
Then, starting around the 60-70% mark, the main character started to get kind of annoying....Read more
I'm massively, massively disappointed.
The Marriage Lie started out AMAZING! I was totally hooked. Glued to the pages. Couldn't put it down. Loved everything about it.
Then, starting around the 60-70% mark, the main character started to get kind of annoying. I get she was in a really stressful place, but she started to do some things that were just pretty damn stupid. (show spoiler)[Like some of the stuff she openly confessed to the police without telling her lawyer first.] But whatever, I could deal with it. Maybe I'd give the book 4 stars instead of 5, I thought.
But then... the ending... It totally ruined the book for me. It ended up being hugely unsatisfying for me. (show spoiler)[Partly, I didn't feel satisfied by Will's actions. In fact, I'm not even sure I completely understood them. After all that build up, that explanation was kind of rushed over. But mostly, after all that I was kind of on Will's side, so I was really disappointed by what Iris did in the end.]
I thought about giving the book 2 stars because ugh, that ending.. But I gave it 3 to try to honour how much I loved the first half.

This was awesome — my perfect kind of creepy read. :) Iris’s husband Will dies on board a plane crash that he wasn’t supposed to be on, and as Iris tries to come to terms with it, she unravels the thread that was holding all of Will’s secrets together. There’s a pretty big twist at the end I didn’t quite see coming, and this was a really fun fast-paced read. Perfect for summertime beach or cottage trips!
