THE TRUTH IS SCARIER THAN FICTION
Keri Wolf has joined the crew of The Seekers, a show that searches for paranormal phenomena, as they explore a supposedly haunted old inn on the road between Philadelphia and Harrisburg. The place is famous for its warm welcome—and infamous for being the site of an ax murder rampage in the 1920s. They’ve barely begun when a very real dead body is discovered in the basement. As a nonfiction author, Keri is supposed to be the rational one, but she can’t explain a terrifying apparition that seems to be both a threat and a warning.
Former detective Joe Dunhill knows what she’s going through—the strange gift of being able to see and talk to the dead is a struggle he shares. A new member of the FBI’s Krewe of Hunters, he’s on the team investigating the disturbing death. The town is steeped in old-fashioned superstition, and the deeper Joe and Keri plunge into the dark secrets of the inn, the closer they get to a devastating truth. Will a bloody history be repeated? Or can the spirits of the past reach out to stop a killer?

Kerri Wolf was asked to be a historian consultant during a Seekers Investigation of the haunted inn, owned by the famous movie star Carl Brentwood. Graham did an excellent job of feeding us local history, the inn’s background and laying out the grizzly murders.
Things turn upside down on their first night of recording and investigating when a dead body is discovered and Kerri believes she sees a woman dressed in white standing next to the victim.
Our FBI case opens with characters we met previously in The Summoning. So if you are looking to dive into the series for the first time, that is a good book to start with. Although each book contains its own murder-mystery and romance.
Joe Dunhill was the former Detective in Savannah who first called the FBI in on a missing persons case. He has been invited to join the Krewe of Hunters, but before attending training is pulled in to assist when the new owner of the haunted inn requested him. He will once again be working with Agent Dallas Wicker. The local police aren’t happy to have the FBI involved and believe the Seekers are responsible for the killing, but it turns out the victim is one of the FBI’s own and the inn wasn’t the initial murder scene.
The case was an interesting one, as those from the past come to Kerri with warnings and visions providing clues that help steer the Krewe towards solving the case. Kerri is paired off with Joe. The chemistry between them was fun, sometimes snarky, and I liked how it played out. The two travel, research the past, and find themselves in danger more than once. Quite a few times things were intense.
Graham served the romance on the side as the case took center stage, but it offered some tender moments, laughter and amped up the intensity. I enjoyed how Graham wove the past into the present from the case of the dead FBI agent was working and back around to the murders that took place at the inn long ago. It was clever and felt plausible. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer
