I thought it was a nice easy read being a novella, although I got slightly confused with some of the community and who was who. I do not feel we got to know any of the characters due to the length of the novella, one thing I did learn is they all blame themselves for Professor Aubrey's death.
I think because we did not get much character development, when the big bad vampire hunter came to town, it didn't bother me. This is a trilogy so I may pick up the next book to see what happens. However, this could be the trickery of the author, to suck you in a little bit so it makes you want to pick up the next book - kudos to you Rose if that is the case - because it worked on me!
What did I like about the book, I hear you ask? (Well I am pretending you did!) I enjoyed the fact that the author added photos in the book in the passages so you could visualise what she had written which I thought was a fab touch. I loved the twist on the vampires, where she tries to humanise them. They are not the bloodsucking fiends from the movies (which they hate!) nor the sparkly ones from the Twilight era.
I did really like Josie, as she was the youngest of them all, going to night school to get an education, reinforcing the fact they are trying to fit with the community and live in peace.
Afterall, Vampires are nice people too!!
*Thank you so much to Sage at Sage Blog Tours and the author Rose Titus for a copy of this book*
