I liked this Sookie Stackhouse book better than the previous two. I liked the relationship between Alcide and Sookie, maybe because they didn't just jump into it declaring their love from the get go. I don't really enjoy Bill as a character and even less so as one half of Sookie's love life. I think that he is a fictionalized image of an abusive, and controlling relationship.
This book held my attention much more so than the previous two, and didn't seem to drag on quite as much.
I continue to enjoy that 'unique' southern voice that Sookie brings to the story. It isn't apologetic and careful like so many books these days, afraid to offend anyone. It feels closer to what people from small towns thoughts would be.
I will continue this series at least until the next book, although this is not one of those series that just scream to be finished. I will probably eventually finish them, but I'll most likely need to take a few breaks.
I would recommend this to anyone who enjoyed The Vampire Diaries books, or the Beautiful Creatures series.
Even though this is shelved/categorized as a mystery, I would not recommend this as a book to someone who is looking for a mystery. I also would probably not recommend this to anyone looking for a "serious" read, for lack of a better term. It was a little bit on the cheesey side, with some 'guilty pleasure' aspects to it.
Overall though this was not a terrible book, and there are significant improvements from books one and two (mainly, the fact that it got away from the unassailable couple of perfection trap).

Club Dead is the third book in the Sookie Stackhouse series, this one introduces werewolves. Properly. They were mentioned in Living Dead in Dallas but we didn’t really get to learn anything about them.
Bill has been assigned a top secret mission for the Queen of Louisiana, to Sookie’s disappointment he can’t tell her anything about it. In fact he even lies to her about where he’s been sent for it. While on this mission he disappears in the territory of the King of Mississippi. Eric need’s Sookie’s help to find Bill as Eric can’t roam freely in Mississippi without letting the King know, and that could cause war between the two ‘Kingdoms’. So Sookie heads off to Jackson with a werewolf named Alcide, who owes Eric a favour.
I have to be honest that this book took quite a while to start I feel. To me the beginning was a tad boring, Sookie moped around the whole time and nothing much else happened. I got tired of hearing how much she missed Bill even though she was upset and angry at him. To be honest I would have been just as pissed, Bill up and left telling her barely anything then he lied to her along the way. I get it was a secret mission but if he really cared for Sookie he wouldn’t have been so distant about it all.
In my review for Living Dead in Dallas I said I was on the Eric bandwagon. Yeahh, Club Dead has put me on the Alcide band wagon. Seriously, such a sexy, well mannered man! How I wish I knew such a man… As soon as Alcide entered the scene the book picked up and I started to really enjoy it. The tension between him and Sookie was so thick you could cut it with a knife. I actually liked that they both new this, it didn’t make things awkward, it made things a whole lot more interesting. I wanted them to get together! Scandal.
I liked Bill even less in this book. Well, he was hardly in this book because of his disappearance but I am astonished at the way he acted. I’m annoyed that Sookie wasn’t angrier about it. ‘It’ being something that you need to read the book to find out.
While I am enjoying the Sookie Stackhouse books I am starting to think that these books are all over the place in terms of writing style, plot and characters. The plot in this book didn’t feel smooth, when I felt like it was the end things were still happening but they hardly felt like they were connected to the main plot. Even though they were. It felt jerky and I found myself getting confused at times.
Overall, I did enjoy Club Dead but it didn’t quite reach my expectations. The ending left me wondering where life will take Sookie next and what decisions she will be faced with which has made me really want to read the fourth book! Harris has a way of making you want to pick up the next book.

*Spoiler Alert* I am probably the last person on earth reviewing this book but just in case you haven't read it consider yourselves warned.
This is the third in a series of what is now known to be thirteen books. This book is deeper and darker than the first two books. It like the first two books are all exciting and she is in love then bam Bill cheats on her and things go downhill from there. Well not completely downhill she doesn't get killed but you get my drift.
For me reading about this betrayal was painful. I did not realize just how invested I was in Sookie as a character until this happened. I was so pissed at Bill and this is a fictional person but seriously my emotions were as if they were real. Then when I started trying to tell Sookie to not mess things up more by getting involved with Eric, I knew I have become a die hard sookie fan. I will now order ALL books from my library.
In all seriousness though this book takes a darker turn. There is almost no sex in this book and there is Bill who decides to take up with his ex. I liked how this book explored that relationship. The author captured the emotions that are inherent in a betrayal.
Even though I was rooting for her not to I also liked how she showed how the “chemistry” was between Sookie and Eric. It made sense in that she was hurting over Bill to want to betray him back but she doesn’t all the way.
This not “great works of art” by any means but like a good candy bar it is hard to resist. It is great to read between more substantial books.This review was originally posted on Adventures in Never Never Land
