Cocktails and Books

Oh dear Lord! Trent Hennington broke my heart. I should have known the last Henington brother was going to be the one that would run me through the gamut of emotions.
I always wondered what the deal was with Trent and Grace. Through the other Hennington brother books, we knew they were on again/off again. I didn't have to wonder for very long because their issues became front and center quickly. Bottom line, Trent wouldn't marry Grace. After twenty years Grace decided to finally cut her losses and try to find someone who wanted to settle down for the rest of his life with her.
I understood why Grace did what she did. She'd been in love with Trent for all of her adult life and was willing to give him every last inch if it might he might love her enough to marry her. When he said he couldn't give her that she finally put herself first. It broke my heart as much as hers, but I applauded her for sticking up for herself and decided that she needed to try to find a different version of happy for herself.
Poor Trent was a hot mess. He loved his woman, but trauma from being a first responder made him shy away from giving her the one thing she wanted. I understood his reasoning, even if I couldn't believe he was ever ok with stringing Grace along. And just when he was finally getting his love life together, his parents drop a bombshell on him. It was like the poor man couldn't catch a break. But that bombshell proved just how much he was meant to have Grace by his side. She was his rock and the voice of reason he sometimes needed.
Corinne Michaels once again put me through the emotional wringer, but that's what make this author one of my one-click pre-order favorites. You laugh a little, smile a lot and always, always, alway keep a box of Kleenex handy for when she pushes you over that emotional cliff.
If you haven't met any of the other Hennington brothers you must discover Trent. He's my absolute favorite and a Top Read for 2017.
