The Night Stalker by Chris Carter

The Night Stalker

by Chris Carter

When an unidentified female body is discovered laid out on a slab in an abandoned butcher's shop, the cause of death is unclear. Her body bares no marks; except for the fact that her lips have been carefully stitched shut. It is only when the full autopsy gets underway at the Los Angeles County morgue that the pathologist will reveal the true horror of the situation - a discovery so devastating that Detective Robert Hunter of the Los Angeles Homicide Special Section has to be pulled off a different case to take over the investigation But when his inquiry collides with a missing persons' case being investigated by the razor-sharp Whitney Meyers, Hunter suspects the killer might be keeping several women hostage. Soon Robert finds himself on the hunt for a murderer with a warped obsession, a stalker for whom love has become hate.

Thanks to you, [a:Chris Carter|3443298|Chris Carter|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1331481644p2/3443298.jpg], I can't sleep. This book was seriously creepy, gross, disgusting, disturbing. In each and every way. I actually had phantom limb pains. No kidding! I couldn't help but love this book. I know, I know, it sounds weird to love a book that makes you sick etc., but that's just the way it is. This book was so good that I just had to keep reading. I really don't know why I do this to myself, it's like I just can't not do it. Of the three books I've read so far, this is definitely the best - in both the good and the not so good way.

The writing was exactly like in the previous books; easy! And once again, the chapters were very short - sometimes just two pages. I love short chapters - that means you can read just one chapter before you're off to sleep. If you're able to stop reading, that is - I wasn't! The story is told from multiple POVs; Robert Hunter's as well as the victims. I worked really well, and I don't know which I liked the most. This book is well balanced, even though I would've liked to be without those pictures on my brain! ;) If my boyfriend hadn't complained, I wouldn't have turned off the lights at night!

At one point in this book, I thought I'd figured it all out, but...well...no. I hadn't. It was clear that this was a trap, and I was just too naïv to not believe it. It kind of freaks me out how he comes up with his ideas, I mean...they're sick. They just are. And the fact that he's thinking of these nasty ideas...that's just too scary!

I've heard that this is the "worst" book in terms of creepyness, so that's my comfort. Even though I was sleepless for a couple of nights and I got paranoid, this book was definitely worth it!
