Initial thoughts: Wow. That was one big jealousy fest; and all the stringing along — so many yoyos wound up tight. America swinging between Maxon and Aspen, Maxon "hedging his bets", Marlee's uncertainty, etc got on my nerves. Yet, in spite of annoyances I had with the book, The Elite still entertained me. The fluidity of the plot was engaging. It was succinct and always continued on. That made it really easy to read, even if I found myself rolling my eyes a couple of times. I wish the parts involving history and historiography would've been explored more. "History is written by victors and the losers have no voice," my social studies teacher used to remind us. The Elite drew on these rhetorics but sadly, the book lacked the depth to explore these more.
