Your Money or Your Life

by Joe Dominguez

In times like these, it's more important than ever to know the difference between making a living and making a life. Your Money or Your Life is even more relevant today than it was when the book first hit the stands, and a great publicity campaign will bring this already strong-selling book to a whole new audience.

Initial thoughts: There are some important concepts in this book such as thinking of money not just in terms of its trading value but also in terms of "life energy" — hours of your life spent acquiring money in exchange for what you spend it on. Is it worth giving up ten hours of your life to afford a particular item and not spending those ten hours on something else that matters to you instead? This book also encourages readers to be more conscious about what we spend our money on, how we live our lives, and how these align with our values and longterm goals.

On the flip side, I got tired of listening to a lot of anecdotes that didn't necessarily add more clarity. There was a lot of repetition as well. Some people might like that reinforcement but I think more than one repetition of each point, maybe two for the super important ones, are a waste of my "life energy".
