Gotrek Gurnisson was the greatest monster slayer of the age, who met his doom at the End Times. The heroic duardin stepped forth into the Realm of Chaos to fight the daemons gnawing at the world's ending and satisfy his death oath, leaving behind his companion Felix Jaeger. Now Gotrek has returned, having outlived the old gods and the Old World. Spat from the ruinous depths with his redemption unfulfilled, he emerges into the Mortal Realms, a strange new world where gods walk the earth and dark forces are ascendant. Nothing is as he remembers. His oaths are dust, and the lands are torn asunder by Chaos. Yet when Gotrek learns of human champions being elevated to immortality for Sigmar’s fight against this darkness, the so-called 'Stormcast Eternals', he knows why fate has brought him into this new age. To find Felix. For only then can he find the peace in death he seeks. But is there more to Gotrek's apotheosis than even he can fathom? Has he truly been chosen by Grimnir and for what purpose?

THE STORY
In the twisted remains of the Eightpoints, Archaon has raised the Varanspire as an indomitable bastion against the puppet forces of Order. From its halls, the call of the Everchosen resounds across the Mortal Realms, summoning the worthy to his side. This is a deadly odyssey, for the Exalted Grand Marshal has no use for the weak. Rival warbands of every stripe battle across the wastes of the Bloodwind Spoil, a land filled with unspeakable horrors, to earn Archaon’s favour. Some, such as the Iron Golems, use brute force and unwavering discipline to achieve their ends. Others, like the Corvus Cabal, strike from the shadows, cutting throats and taking trophies of their hunt. All seek to claim their rightful place at the Everchosen’s side, but few will survive even their first nights in this tormented domain.
This anthology brings together six brand-new stories, chronicling the perilous journeys of some of the Mortal Realms' most horrifying warbands: the Unmade, the Iron Golems, the Splintered Fang and more, from authors including David Annandale, Josh Reynolds and David Guymer.

For within this forgotten ruin lies an artefact of darkest sorcery that possesses the power to reshape reality itself. The Silver Shard. Book 2 in the Kharadron Overlords story arch
Threatened with losing their ship to pay their investors, Brokrin Ullissonn and the crew of the Iron Dragon embark on a perilous voyage: to seek out the fabled sky-island of Profit’s Ruin. Glory and riches await them if they can discover the secrets of the infamous legend, but it is a voyage undertaken by only the brave and the desperate. Beset by enemies old and new, Brokrin’s journey is fraught with danger and overshadowed by a terrible truth: no Kharadron vessel has ever escaped from the grip of this floating sea of weeds and vines. Will the Iron Dragon be the first?
Deep in the tainted lands of the Eightpoints, a child is born during an apocalyptic storm. As omens and prophecies swirl around it, with Archaon himself marking the boy, a brutal hunt begins, each warband striving to claim the child for their own ends. To Burak the Bloodseer and his Untamed Beasts, the child must be found and destroyed before it grows to rival the Everchosen. To Ashrath Silenthis and his Splintered Fang, it is Archaon’s heir and a means of buying his favour. To Lord Rakaros, the fanatical leader of the Scions of the Flame, the child must be given to the fire to prove their dedication to the Three Eyed-King. But as each warband fights for survival across this nightmarish landscape, they are stalked by a hellish and hated enemy: the chosen warriors of Sigmar the Craven. What follows is a brutal struggle that will lead to the very catacombs of the Bloodwind Spoil, where failure means certain death and damnation.
Rising from the gloom-shrouded cults of Ulgu, the empire of the Daughters of Khaine now dominates the Realm of Shadow. These matriarchal witch-aelves are graceful masters of death who revel in spilling blood, and whose opposition to Chaos borders on mania. Proud governors of their own ruthless agendas, it is their devotion to Khaine, the ancient aelven god of murder, the Daughters seek to prove above all, and alongside it, the favour of his High Priestess, Morathi. To this end, a Khainite would bleed the realms dry in dedication to her cause.
This portmanteau novel weaves together three brutal tales, each telling of a witch-aelf burdened by an impossible task: Trisethni of the Khailebron sect, Nepenora of the Kharumathi, and Vahis of the Draichi Ganeth. Whether by poisoned chalice, enchanted blade or razored whip-lash, these murderesses honour Khaine with gifts of slaughter to rival even their hag queens’. But faced with their most arduous trials yet, will remarkable skill in the art of war be enough to save them?
An ancient labyrinth of eerie subterranean ruins and creeping shadow, the dead city of Mordavia has long concealed a secret of unimaginable power. Now, as vast armies gather and war drums thunder, the perilous treasures of this cursed city are about to be unleashed. Lord-Celestant Kalyani Thunderblade leads her Celestial Vindicators into battle, determined to ensure that the city’s secrets remain forever under lock and key. Yet the odds are stacked steeply against her: plague-ridden legions of maggotkin, swarming tides of skaven, brutal greenskin hordes and mercenary Kharadron Overlords are all racing for the prize, shattering the sepulchral silence as they transform Mordavia’s ruins into a blood-drenched battleground. Worse still, something monstrous stirs ever-closer to wakefulness deep beneath the city’s buried streets. At the head of a desperate alliance, Thunderblade must battle twisted warlords, rising storms of dark sorcery and her own inner demons to achieve victory in Mordavia, lest she pay the ultimate price…
Beastgrave is starving. Poisoned from the inside by the treacherous Katophrane Curse, the Ur-Mountain forever calls warriors to its bloody depths in its desperation. Myriad warbands answer from across the Mortal Realms, some seeking treasure, others power, and yet more wishing only to kill. None find what they came for, and even death is denied those who enter Beastgrave’s halls.
Now, a new area has yawned open, the Direchasm – a place of darkness where warbands fight endlessly. Some, like Myari’s Purifiers – noble scions of the Lumineth Realm-lords – have come to purge the taint from the mountain. Others, such as The Dread Pageant, seek any sign of Slaanesh, and will stop at nothing until the lost deity is found. To achieve their goals, both must battle the likes of The Wurmspat, Rippa’s Snarlfangs and The Grymwatch. Beastgrave demands blood, but those who enter its caverns soon find themselves lost to its fury, doomed to fight an endless war.

The city of Excelsis is in mourning. Thousands were slain in the great greenskin siege, the streets of a proud civilisation reduced to bloodied pits. The sheer might of Sigmar’s allies may have won the battle, but the war between Order and Destruction is far from over, and out in the Ghurish wildlands a new evil lurks. When Freeguild captain Holger Beck and his regiment are ambushed on patrol, there is no time to fathom the cunning intellect of their foe – all they learn is terror. Broken and beaten, Beck latches on to a retinue of Thunderstrike Stormcasts led by Knight-Relictor Actinus, a formidable warrior under whose intrepid shadow Beck falls. Together, mortal soldier and divine warrior must strike forth into the dark heart of Ghur to destroy their enemy, before it takes advantage of the weakened city. But their trials have only just begun, and when even the indomitable Thunderstrike’s mettle is tested, what chance is there for a human soul to claw at victory?
This anthology contains the thrilling novella Thunderstrike by Richard Strachan, and a host of short stories that showcase the many warring armies that exist within the worlds of Warhammer Age of Sigmar.
Long have the Lumineth Realm-lords held themselves aloof from the troubles of the Mortal Realms. But now, as Nagash asserts his dominion over the living and the dead, the Lumineth must strike back.
For Carreth Y’gethin, a legendary warrior and powerful Stonemage, the war against Nagash is merely a distraction from the Lumineth’s true purpose – to hone their spiritual equilibrium and prevent their realm falling back into the madness that once plagued it. But when Carreth’s sister is horrifically killed fighting the undead, he finds himself inexorably drawn back into the struggle.
As the Ossiarch Bonereapers invade Hysh, Carreth is charged by Teclis himself to defeat one of Nagash’s most dangerous generals, who is destined to destroy the Light of Eltharion, the Lumineth’s greatest champion. The Stonemage must conquer the warring emotions within and slay this champion of Death, lest the light of Hysh fade from the Mortal Realms forever…
Ulfenkarn is a city of nightmares. Its vampiric rulers have indulged their bloodlust in every shadow-clad alley, turning the once-proud metropolis into a charnel house. Already crushed beneath the tyranny of Radukar the Wolf and his Thirsting Court, a spate of vicious murders plunges the mortal inhabitants into fresh terror. Emerging to uncover a connection between the attacks is an unlikely group of heroes: a vampire hunter from Carstinia, a slum-born vigilante, a ruthless wizard, and a soldier who is the last survivor of her noble bloodline. Arrayed against them are the undead monsters that thrive upon Radukar's gory regime. But a daring search for answers turns into a fight for survival when the Wolf himself descends his Ebon Citadel and joins the carnage in the streets…
In the rain-soaked shanty towns of Excelsis, sellsword Niksar Astaboras drunkenly barters his way to a meaningless existence. Little does he care for the war that rages between men and monsters beyond the city walls, despite portents of its encroaching threat. Mortal life in the Realm of Beasts is short enough, and to leave the shelter of civilisation is to surrender to certain death.
But death is coming to Excelsis. The forces of Destruction are on the move and the realm quakes with each thunderous step. In the wildlands, a sinister new foe overwhelms even the mighty Stormcast Eternals. Yet just as all seems lost, an unexpected champion rises – one to whom Niksar is inextricably linked – ready to lead a crusade into the very heart of darkness. Embroiled in this harrowing journey, Niksar is forced to choose between loyalty and the chance of survival, and in so doing discover his true worth in the greatest battle yet against savagery.
Hell-bent on ridding himself of the Fyreslayer rune buried in his chest, Gotrek Gurnisson, the greatest Slayer to ever live, travels deep into the strange, alchemical realm of Chamon. Using their mysterious aether-science, the Kharadron Overlords of Barak-Urbaz offer an end to Gotrek’s quest. But, as the Bad Moon rises and murderous Gloomspite Gitz threaten to destroy the sky-port, Gotrek pits himself against the most ancient enemy of his people – the greenskins. While his aelven travelling companion, Maleneth Witchblade, struggles to keep him alive, Gotrek throws himself headlong into a bloody battle for survival that will take him into the dank, fungal heart of Skragrott’s Asylum.
The Colonnade, a free city held aloft by gargantuan pillars and crowned with a spire of diamonds, is the jewel of Ghur, obsessed with purity in a realm of bestial savagery. But now, it faces annihilation at the hands of an unstoppable beastherd. In a desperate gamble, Councillor Atella Reigehren requests the aid of a being anathema to the Colonnade. She seeks Lauka Vai, the Mother of Nightmares, and her dynasty of monsters, the Avengorii. The crucible of war has thrown these factions together, but can they put their differences aside to face this common foe, or will the clash of purity and monstrosity be their undoing?
The siege of Excelsis is over, and amidst the rubble of the city the survivors count the costs. But for Galen and Doralia ven Denst, two of the most feared witch hunters in the Order of Azyr, the horrors they have witnessed are not so easily dismissed. Struggling to cope with the traumas of the siege, Doralia is concerned when her father disappears into the wilds of Ghur. As she sets off on his trail, Doralia begins to suspect that Galen is hunting down a dark secret from their past – one that might hold the key to a new threat rising to engulf Excelsis. With the city barely recovered from its ordeal, the witch hunters must make a fatal choice between the desire for revenge and the rigours of duty – or Excelsis will pay the price.
The Realm of Beasts has ever been a place of savagery and destruction, defiant in the face of Sigmar’s feeble attempts at liberation. But now, deep within the mountains of the Ghurish Heartlands, something ancient stirs. A god long-trapped is about to awaken, and the drumbeat of war calls. Ferocious Ironjawz, gluttonous ogors and towering gargants all set their sights on the human interlopers, determined to cast down their keeps. It is into this maelstrom that generals Ellisior Seraphine Lisandr and Casius Braun march, sent forth from proud Excelsis to conquer new lands. It is a near suicidal task, made ever worse by the growing rift between Azyrite and Reclaimed. But Sigmar demands sacrifice, and the forces of Order are about to be tested like never before.
Gotrek Gurnisson is the greatest Slayer of the age. He is a furious relic of a dead world, a sworn enemy of Chaos and a stranger in the Mortal Realms. Now, reborn and hungry for vengeance, he crosses the war-torn lands of Chamon armed with new oaths, pitting himself against the forces of evil.
Accompanied by the lethal aelven assassin Maleneth Witchblade, Gotrek marches to war with the Fyreslayers of the Grymm Peak Mountains, revelling in his newfound sense of purpose. The fire in the Slayer's soul has not gone unnoticed, however. Far beneath the sea, the Idoneth Deepkin are stirring, summoning an ancient power from the abyss – and their sights are set on Gotrek!
