This is one of those issues where they have to spend a lot of time establishing the antagonists in a series. It isn’t bad by any means, but I know some people don’t always enjoy those plots. I think it will be useful to the story though, so I personally wouldn’t skip it. Plus, they did have a few moments relevant with the present as well. I’ll confess that those were my favorite moments, even though I enjoyed the backstory.
