Well, this was *not* what I had expected. I saw this book is the third installment in the Fables series when browsing Goodreads, so I grabbed it together with book #2. It is definitely my fault that I didn’t read the synopsis of The Last Legacy. As it is part of the same series, I assumed it would be another book about Fable and her crew. Nope.
In The Last Legacy we meet some brand new characters, some of which had been mentioned in the previous book or had been introduced in one tiny scene. Not gonna lie, it threw me a bit at first that the story was something so wildly different than what I had expected. It’s actually funny because after the ending of the second book I was thinking “well, I don’t know what book 3 will be about here, this is all wrapped up so neatly.” Now I know *why*.
After my brain had reconciled the plot with this being the third Fable book, I started to be intrigued by the story. It’s a nice novel that is enjoyable to read, it has its moments that are interesting. The book has some surprises in store but also features a twist or two that feel a little more cliché. The Last Legacy also focuses on a young heroine in a world mostly dominated by men, so if you enjoyed the first two books, you’ll probably like this one as well. Despite the change, or rather different focus of scenery, I still think that this would make for a rather cool on-screen adaptation. There isn’t much of an ocean, sailing, boats, crystal clear waters vibe to this, as it’s focused on one city we previously got to know. The characters here follow very different professions, but that doesn’t mean that what they do is any less cut-throat.
