She had to deal with loss, had to made sacrifices, had to acknowledge that certain doors were permanently closed. She also had to accept that some of these losses, sacrifices, and closed doors led to new and better things.
This book is a perfect blend of love, humor, happy, sad. I think Ockler writes beautifully, and she created a very honest portrait of a girl, who had lost so much, and was somewhat resentful of her situation. However, I was sympathetic, and said girl did redeem herself. Hudson had to grow up, and she came to come realizations about herself and her life that were very mature.
