I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I tend to like fairytale retellings. At least if they're done well. This one was for the most part. Lots of unique twists, and funny moments.

I quite enjoyed reading about Poly and Onepiece. I didn't like Luck at all however. At least not until somewhere around the 40% mark. He never answered questions, was always doing things to Poly magically without her permission. Pretty much, he was an obnoxious character. But somewhere along the way, he started growing on me.

And he grew on Poly as well. I ended up really liking him by the end of the book, and wishing that his character had been toned down just a bit in the beginning. So that I wouldn't have had to work so hard to like him.

It also took a seemingly long while for Poly to start figuring out how to get around her curse. And then once she did, so much of the untangling happened so quickly it almost seemed too easy. I liked a lot of the secondary characters. The bad guy wasn't very fleshed out, especially compared to Poly, Luck, and Onepiece.

The magic used in the story was a lot of fun to read about. Nearly sentient hair, being able to travel into a book, three different kinds of magic, taking apart spells and making them into different new ones... I haven't decided if I'll be reading the next book in the series. This review was originally posted on Fantasy of the Silver Dragon
