Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake

Three Dark Crowns (Three Dark Crowns, #1)

by Kendare Blake

In every generation on the island of Fennbirn, a set of triplets is born--three queens, all equal heirs to the crown and each possessor of a coveted magic. Mirabella is a fierce elemental, able to control storms or flames with the snap of her fingers. Katharine is a poisoner, able to ingest the deadliest poisons without harm. And Arsinoe, a naturalist, can control nature. But becoming the Queen Crowned isn't solely a matter of royal birth. Each sister has to fight for it. And it's not just a game of win or lose ... it's life or death. The night the sisters turn sixteen, the battle begins. The last queen standing gets the crown. --

Three Dark Crowns’s sequel, One Dark Throne, is one I’m really hyped for. Why?
+I absolutely ADORE the world-building
+No idea what happens next.
+Dark fantasy with female leads
+Fantastic writing
+Characters progression happened at the end that I’m here for
+I NEED to find out HOW the fuck this set-up happened

Yet Three Dark Crowns never came close to being my favorites list last year because…

-It was very slow to read. It’s a lot of unpleasant people to keep track of while not much happens.
-Saw the big events coming, especially the twist ending
-Unsettling insta-lust cheating. I’ve been cheated on and had auto reactions where I wanted to throw the fucking book.

I mean it’s good but it’s alllll ground work and I’ve read some fantastic books in 2016, so it had no chance. But One Dark Throne? Oh lord, I can just feel how good that one is going to be. It’s time for the throw down.
