I've never read litRPG before, nor am I a gamer, at all. I don't think I'd necessarily seek out another read in the genre beyond this series, but this was well recommended on a reading subreddit as a good fantasy, and as someone trying to get back into fiction reading, I gave it a go.

I personally LOVED it. The leveling up and other RPG things work in this well and aren't annoying, though I did often skim the stats dumps at the ends of the chapters.

My only complaint: the occasional swearing was out of place at times for most of the characters and the narration in general.

Anyway, if you aren't into litRPG, I still say give this a shot!
