Lexie has been suffering some of the worst kinds of bullying for the past 3 years. There were two ring leaders but there were many others who while they didn't participate didn't do anything to help. I thought that Lexie was incredibly brave. She goes through so much and not through any fault of her own. Just because some individuals think its fun to make other people feel terrible.
Dylan used to be one of Lexie's close friends. But over the last three years they have drifted apart as his knew friends torment and torture Lexie. He does nothing to stop them, too caught up in his own personal hell to see what is going on around him. Dylan was a bit of a jerk at the beginning of this book. He's a self confessed jerk but a jerk nonetheless. He does however redeem himself throughout the book.
I liked that Sonya used her writing to highlight a key issue in the world. Bullying in whatever form has been around for a long time and I am sure it will continue but this book highlights that we are not alone and that together we can overcome the bullies.
As always Sonya's writing captures you and your heart. You find yourself rooting for these characters without even realising it. I had some moments where I was so choked up over the scenes. It is hear breaking but it is also beautiful.
I highly recommend this book for any YA lover.
