My review and an extended sample of the audiobook are posted at Hotlistens.com.

This is the first book in a new series by Katie Ruggle. It is set in Colorado, like the last three series that I’ve listened to from her. I don’t think there is any overlap at all with the previous series other than small town in Colorado. I was excited to start this new series, because I’ve really loved the characters that Ruggle has created in the past. I also love her small town settings. Both of which I really enjoyed with this series too.

So, this series is following a group of sisters that have a bounty hunter business. They track down people who’ve skipped out on their bail. I don’t think they ever would’ve thought that one of their marks would be their own mother. Or, maybe they did. She’s not been the best mother. She might actually be one of the worst. She’s steals from her own family.

This story follows Molly Pax, who’s the oldest sister who has struggled to keep the family together and in the black. About the time she graduated, her house was about to be in foreclosure. She and her sisters worked really hard to get the house paid off. They are now in a better place. That is until their mother gets herself into some trouble and decides to take them with her.

John Carmondy is also a bounty hunter who has had a crush on Molly since he first saw her. He then starts to show up a lot and lets her grab some of his skips. He’s quite the charmer and very protective of Molly once she is coerced into tracking down a very dangerous skip for a slimy bail bonds man.

As with most of Ruggle’s books, there is a suspense that for each book and one that is over the entire series. There is no difference here. It looks like it will take the series to figure out the issues with the girls’ mother. We also learn at the end of the book who will be the main sister for the next book.

Narration
Callie Beaulieu is narrating this series for Ruggle. I’ve really enjoyed her narrations and glad to listen to her again. She is a good fit for these fun suspenseful stories. I really enjoy her different voices for the characters. I think her pacing and tone is always spot on for the scene that she’s in at the time. I look forward to the next book with her narration.
