Because if they're all like Cole... incredibly smart and dedicated, which makes it completely understandable why Angel is attracted to him despite knowing she shouldn't. But can you really blame her? You can't. It helps that Cole is just as attracted.
And when they come together? It's hot. A nice way to spend a cold winter afternoon, actually.
If I could say anything negative about Against the Dark, it's that I wanted to spend more time with Angel and Cole, immersing myself in their lives and their world. (And that's not a negative. Not really.) Real characters, real struggles. Angel with her interior design and complicated feelings about herself. Cole with his steel trap of a mind and hard upbringing.
Then there was the two of them, teaming up to take down an evil asshole. Angel, the reformed jewel thief. Cole, the undercover agent. Forced to put aside their differences, which really means Cole maneuvering Angel into acting as his lover and Angel being unable to say no, and cast together in a den of not very nice people... they manage to fall in love.
