Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh

Brideshead Revisited (Everyman's Library Classics S.) (Acting Edition S.) (Heritage of Literature S.)

by Evelyn Waugh

Written at the end of the World War II, this novel mourns the passing of the aristocratic world which Waugh knew in his youth and recalls the sensuous pleasures denied him by the austerities of war. In so doing, it provides a study of the conflict between the demands of religion and of the flesh.

I've tried reading Brideshead Revisited several times and I always end up putting it to the side. I find it hard to get into and takes too long to "get there". However, when I saw Brideshead Revisited on sale at Audible and that it is narrated by Jeremy Irons I decided to snatch it up. I am so glad I did. I could listen to Jeremy Irons read the phonebook, his voice is just sublime. Jeremy Irons makes Evelyn Waugh's elegant prose even more refined.  The narration drew me into the story and I was easily transported into their world. Overall, it is a wonderful listen.
