Compromising Willa actually takes place before the previous two books, although it doesn't really matter which order you read them. However, Willa and Hartwell are introduced in Seducing Charlotte where we get a glimpse at their happily ever after. Willa is a twenty-three year old perpetual wallflower who has decided to never marry after her reputation was ruined by (now) Earl of Bellingham. Well, he's back in her life and is desperate to wed her. Of course, Willa is having none of it despite him being the only man who'll have her. That is, until Grey Preston, Duke of Hartwell, returns from his business ventures in India. He has no clue about her sordid past, and is completely entranced by her beauty and sharp mind.
I enjoyed Compromising Willa so much more than the other two books! Willa and Hartwell are both great characters, and dare I say, I was quite intrigue by the lecherous Earl as well. Bellingham and Hartwell nearly come to blows several times over Willa, and I was a bit sad to not witness an actual duel! Hartwell is too much of a gentleman for that. Well, kind of, since the story takes on a revenge plot close to the end which I really liked. There are many ways to ruin someone's reputation in those days!
I also liked the romance between Willa and Hartwell. They share some steamy scenes together before they're married, and of course some more after the wedding. She's determined to remain "on the shelf" but he simply cannot let her. He's also supportive of her more improper pursuits. Willa is a genius with blending teas and donates them to a coffee shop that employs widows and unwed mothers. Even though it's not accepted for women in indulge in trade, Hartwell finds a way for his wife to do it without being scandalized! They're perfect for each other.
Compromising Willa was just a great read. There is a twist at the end that I didn't see coming. It just goes to show how rumors can be twisted to suit a certain purpose. In the end, I'm very glad that I've discovered this series.
