"Finley's finally working on criminal cases at her law firm, but she's still no closer to solving the dilemma of her love life. On the one hand is Tony, successful partner in the firm--but also her boss. On the other, bad-boy investigator Liam, who won't commit but won't stay away, either. Into the mix add Tony's adoring 13-year-old daughter, who's got a serious case of hero-worship for Finley and her bargain-hunting ways, and Liam's too-perfect ex-wife, and Finley's hope of romance seems to be fading fast. (Meanwhile, Finley's mother is setting her up on blind dates with every rich, boring jerk in Florida.) When Liam appears on her doorstep one night with a bullet in his shoulder, he's forced to tell Finley something he's never shared before--the reason he's no longer a detective on the force. Turns out he was framed for the shooting of a 14-year-old kid in a drug bust...although he was never charged, his suspected involvement was too hot for the police, who asked him to resign. Now the same gun that supposedly killed the kid has turned up as the weapon that murdered Liam's ex-partner, and he's determined to clear his name once and for all. Finley and her friends are on the case, but before she knows it, she's getting anonymous threats and has to go underground herself. Thank god she's still got internet access!! Not only can she keep up with her beloved eBay auctions, but her keen fashionista eyes can see that some figures close to the case are living a little too well for their pay grades. Can she save herself, clear Liam, and find true love? If anyone can, it's Finley"--
First, for shame Ms. Pollero! I realise that in a series it's necessary to repeat basic information in each book, so someone picking up in the middle of the series understands what's going on. But to copy, word for word, a whole section of one book and paste it into the next???? Seriously - in book four, [b:Slightly Irregular|8366980|Slightly Irregular (A Finley Anderson Tanner Mystery #4)|Rhonda Pollero|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1330613311s/8366980.jpg|13222240], there's a scene with Finley at the home of a client squatting on a client's property. It's a well written scene, very descriptive. In this book, she *revisits* that couple in a follow up to the story and Ms. Pollero proceeds to repeat - word for word - the scene from Slightly Irregular. It was an honest to god cut and paste job. She should be embarrassed.
In spite of this, the book was excellent - finally Finley and Liam make honest headway in their relationship and the plot surrounding Liam and his past is excellent, really well thought out and written. I love the approach of investigating a mystery not only from the p.i. perspective but from the legal one. Finley is smart, capable and clever as well as being humorous. Her friends don't play as big a part in this book, but they're there when needed. This book shows a maturity in both the characters and the plots that a good series has - it's evolving as it should.
I hope Ms. Pellero continues to write this series - but no more copy/paste! People notice!
