This was a quirky read, but I did enjoy a spicy story told from a man's perspective. Derek was a man who had pretty much given up on every finding 'the one' when he ran saw a very wet Xenia at the exclusive club. He couldn't explain the draw to Xenia, but he didn't fight it. One would think than a man over the age of 20 would go running in the opposite direction once he discovered the woman he was interested in was a virgin, had to submit to a weekly virginity testing massage and wanted to remain a virgin so she could keep her job. But not Derek. He agreed to date Xenia, get to know her and wait until she was read to leave Mermaids.
Xenia was an interesting character. I had thought she was from another country, because there seemed to be an ever so slight difference in the way she talked. To me, that attributed to her naiveté about some things and her very open sensualness about being a mermaid. Boy was I surprised when I found out she was from Ohio. Which then lead to me to question why Xenia was the way she was...but unfortunately we didn't have answers for that.
While this was a little different than what I normally expect for this type of book (meaning I thought the main couple would actually be the ones having the sex), it was still a story that captivated me enough to keep me wanting to know what happened next. I would have like a little bit more development between Xenia and Derek, I understand the author can only put so much in the allotted space.
