I had high expectations for this book, because it was Violet's story. Violet was one of the more complicated characters in this series as she was struggling for autonomy from the club, but also struggling with loving people who were loyal to the club. I have to say, McGarry really delivered on this one.
The story started out with a MAJOR event, that forced Chevy and Violet back into each other's orbits. Each of them needed comfort, and were always able to find it in each other. This BIG start pulled me right into the story, and I just fell deeper and deeper into it as it progressed.
I love a second chance romance. They may be young, but Chevy and Violet have a lot of history, and had been fighting their need to be with each other, because Violet wanted out of club life and Chevy was loyal to the club. Their love was so strong, so intense, that it could be felt through the pages of the book. I rooted for these two since the last book, and was keeping my fingers crossed that they would overcome all the obstacles put in their way. So, thank you Katie McG for giving this to me.
This larger story that has been building since book one is coming to a head. We learn more about the circumstances surrounding Chevy's father's death, why he was absent from his life, and some family members he was unaware existed. I think I slow clapped when that last bit was revealed, because I just loved what McGarry did there.
The core group of the story are those raised by Olivia: Chevy, Violet, Oz, and Razor. They shared all those formative years with this amazing, strong woman, who instilled so much of her wisdom into this next generation. They are all very present in this book, working together to keep each other safe, and I throughly enjoyed having them all there again. I also liked the updates on Razor's and Breanna's situation, as I am totally greedy about information when I care about characters. Another awesome gift from McGarry, was the cameo of some Pushing the Limits characters. I think I audibly squeed when they appeared in the story.
Overall: Another gritty love story, which took the overarching story to the next level in a series that just gets better and better with each book.
