Finding Alex centres on detective Blake Hallaran and personally his life is riddled with emotional issues resulting in his keeping everyone at a distance. However, his unexplained pull towards the mysterious woman has him taking more than a professional interest in her safety.
Despite the predictably of the story, I enjoyed the time spent following the investigation. From the outset, I had a finger on the suspect, so the revelation came as no surprise. However, unexpected twists, coupled with some suspenseful moments, delivered some surprises. The romance that developed between the protagonists was complex. The circumstances of the couple’s meeting, memory loss, Blake personal issues and the serial killer investigation added levels of ’complexity to their romance. They helped each other in working through their issues, although Blake didn’t make it easy.Jane Doe was an interesting character. As information about her comes to light, the reader learns she suffered a lot in the past. Her experiences toughened her and taught to protect herself. The reader believed that her survival instincts honed from an obviously rough past kept her alive and aided in her escape from a deranged killer.I had a great experience with Helen Starbuck and would definitely read more of her work if the opportunity arises.
All the narrators, except for Sebastian York, are new to me. I enjoyed this full cast narration. Sebastian York was the voice of Blake and, like the seasoned narrator he is, he brought him to life. The other narrators also did their part in giving life to the story and voice to the characters. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading
