Lily and Gavin meet under different circumstances, which have them embroiled in a mob / drug cartel investigation. While in protective custody, the two of them develop a friendship. Despite what they've been through, the two of them can't deny their attraction and need find a way to make it work.
I enjoyed this story, a lot. There was the intrigue, the romance, and Gavin's British accent. But more importantly, there was the development of Lily. All of that combined to make a book that I dreaded to put down because I just had to know what happened next.
Lily was hard not to like. Even without the horrible crap happening to her, I still would have liked her. Why? When she had nothing and could have very easily let someone else take care of her, she stood her ground and was determined to pull herself up and start over. On her own terms. It didn't matter who pushed her, Gavin, Max, Em....she was going to prove to herself she could get her life back on track.
Gavin was adorable, in his sly alpha male kind of way. I loved the chemistry he had with Lily. The little competitions of the US vs. England were very funny and endeared me to him even more. He would get frustrated with Lily and her independence streak, but he understood why she was doing what he was doing. He was the best kind of man for Lily, proving to her not all men were like her ex.
There is a second book coming out in the series (although this book does not end with a cliffhanger). I look forward to seeing what adventure Lily and Gavin have next.
