Mik Murdoch (Mik Murdoch, Boy Superhero, #2)

Mik Murdoch: Boy Superhero is a wonderful read. It is aimed at younger readers, but I think will delight readers of all ages. I know that at some point my children are really going to enjoy it.

Probably at some time in our lives, we have all wished that we could have some kind of superpower. This is what Mik Murdoch wants more than anything in life. However, he doesn't want it for any selfish reason, but rather because he believes it will help him in what he sees as his duty in life, that of protecting his home town of Cranberry Flats.

There are many things in the book that readers will readily identify with, whether it be the bullying at school, the building of a tree-house, trying to keep the whole truth from your parents without lying, or just the fun and excitement at the thought of being nine years old again.

The book has some strong characters, as well as some good role models. It's the kind of book that you want to keep on reading to find out where Mik's next scheme or idea is going to end up. It's also a clean, fun read that nobody should have any fear of when wondering whether to let their child read it or not.

I don't wish to give too much away, other than saying that Mik discovers that he is a superhero, but perhaps not in the way that he initially thought he would be. This would make a good series for young readers, but I'm not sure if there are plans for any sequels. If there are, I'll be one of the first to check them out.

The expected publishing date of this book is August 1st and if you are looking for something for your kids to read before going back to school then this is one I'd readily recommend.
