Alex and Aideen met when Alex’s friend and former spy, Abraham “Bram” Walcott, the Earl of Kenmarsh, and Aideen’s cousin, Sophie, fell in love and married in an unusual circumstance. A circumstance that ended up with Aideen being abducted and saved in a large part due to Alex.

This novel starts out hot and gets hotter with every page. I love a good enemies to lovers story, but this one has a fantastic twist. Alex holds everyone at arm’s length due to his spy business, even his mother. When his feeling for Aideen get in the way of his current investigation, there is trouble on all fronts.

I loved Aideen in the first book of this series, An Earl in Wolf’s Clothing. She challenged Alex even then. When their story was brought to the forefront, I loved her even more. Windsor showed us a vulnerability in the Irish lass who was learning to love and take on a man who never wanted to be taken. I found Alex more than a little stuffy, but when Windsor explained his silent heartache, I fell hard for this regency man in black.

This novel gives us romance, intrigue, adventure, and passion on the wild ride to forever with Alex and Aideen. The Rules of the Rogue series continues to deliver brilliant, original spins on the regency era. I can’t wait to see what else Windsor has in store for us as she continues. Maybe something with the devilishly charming Marquess of Winterbourne?
