I probably should have enjoyed this one more than I did. I realized while I was reading it that I just do not like this type of setup. The heroine came across way too desperate and the hero was fine impregnating the heroine for a piece of land as long as she moved away so he wouldn't have to see the kid. Out of sight out of mind and all that. It just rubbed me the wrong way. Add in it was also an older woman/younger man trope and ya...Maybe I am in a grumpy mood...who knows.
~WRITING - PLOT - PACE~
I enjoyed the writing in this one quite a bit. The author has an easy flow to her writing. The pace was good, and I never felt the need to skim. It was a fairly quick read and quite humorous. The plot even though not really my cup of tea and a tad predictable was still engaging. The ending was very sweet as well. We get two epilogues. The second of which set up Rafe and Carrie's book. A book I honestly have no interest in reading as I didn't particularly like Rafe in this book and we get to hear all about his sexcapades with an OW. So again, not my cup of tea.
~HERO~
Dylan...I liked him OK. He was 31. Sweet. Not a manwhore. Honestly, there just wasn't anything that WOWED me about him. He was basically just a nice guy who needed to stop sending mixed messages and communicate better.
~HEROINE~
Emma...as with Dylan she was an OK character. She was 34. She came off way too desperate at first (the whole librarian seduction scene made me cringe in embarrassment). But she seemed to be a decent person who like Dylan needed to stop with the mixed messages and have a conversation.
~SECONDARY CHARACTERS~
There was a nice array of secondary characters in this one. Mostly consisting of Dylan's family and Emma's sister. I liked Dylan's Dad and his brother Tristan. Who I didn't particularly like was Rafe. He was a bit of an a$$ in my opinion and I could have done without the whole monologue about his sexcapades with Chasity. Especially since the next book is about him and Carrie (Emma's sister). To that end, I really liked Carrie in this book but the brief look we get of her and Rafe at the end kind of turned me off her character as well.
~HEAT LEVEL~
Medium. There were some decently hot scenes in this one and the frequency was pretty high. I didn't feel they overshadowed the story though. I also thought this couple had some good on page chemistry.
~ANGST LEVEL~
Low. I didn't find this one angsty in the least. Sure there are some misunderstandings that would have been cleared up if these two supposed grown adults had a conversation (I know, I know, then there wouldn't have been a book) but it was a pretty easy peasy insta-lust type of story. There was also no OW drama or OM drama. Dylan wasn't a manwhore (a year celibate if I remember correctly). Emma hadn't had sex in eight months(?).
~IN THE END~
It wasn't a BAD book. I am sure many readers will love it and rightfully so. It just turned out to not be my cup of tea. As I mentioned above this book made me realize that I just do not like the whole "I am so desperate for a baby I am going to ask a total stranger because he is "hot" to father mine" scenario. Plus when I signed up I didn't realize this was another younger man/older woman book. The age difference wasn't huge, but it still took away from my enjoyment some. But like always this is just MY opinion so that for what it's worth.
