Kayla Asher and Betsy Hopewell have two very different lives.


Kayla is just trying to make it through high school and then she can finally run. She already has everything planned out, that is until a guy finds his way into her life and keeps bothering her until she agrees to get a coffee with him, from there we can all guess what's happened to Kayla's plans.


Betsey is scared and jumpy at everything and overall someone who keeps to themselves and tries to make her mom happy. But with a guy around who is trying to make sure they're safe and a mom hadn't always been the best, it's really hard for her to enjoy life and not just sleep all day. That is until she makes a friend (Happy) and she joins in her group and starts to get to know others, but they just might be apart of something that could get her killed.



"I know I can't outrun the demons that want to take me, but at least I can get them away from all these innocent people."


I really liked so many of Betsey's new friends and how even things were a little not so great at times with them they were all still a family. I especially liked how Happy's boyfriend was willing to quit certain things for her and the baby so they could be a family. All of the family surrounding them and how supportive they were was so nice to see. As for Kayla's friends I just never really connected with them, I guess I felt nothing for them and couldn't help but be a little annoyed with her at times because of what she was doing.


Overall I did really like this story. I didn't love it because I was able to figure out something very early on, but even with that figured out I still had so many questions that got answered slowly throughout the book. I wasn't expecting it to get that dark though during the last 100 pages, but I'm also glad it did because if it hadn't we wouldn't have been able to feel the real fear that they had and how serious this all was. So many things happen that I was not expecting and just wow. You just have to read it to believe it, because if not it won't make sense fully because of how twisty this story is and how good at lying certain people are.
