So this has been a fun series. I’ve really enjoyed learning more about the dragons in this world. In this story, we learn about black dragons.
Tomas is an archaeologist and a professor. He is also an Obsidian dragon. He is all colors and no colors. He has walked away from all the septs. He didn’t like that they wanted to use him as a breeding stud. He also did wanted to get close to anyone after losing his parents and siblings to a bad car wreck. He was raised by his grandparents who are still living, but he doesn’t speak to them (he thinks it will be easier to deal with their deaths if he keeps away). He was captured by Parker (a wolf shifter and the main villain of this series). Parker was keeping him in a lab and was trying to run experiments on him, but they needed him to shift, which he refused to do.
Chandra is a human and a scientist (a biologist specifically) who works for Lytropia Institute. She knew something was off about the company. When she starts poking her head in places where it doesn’t belong, she finds herself a prisoner, herself. She is forced to take samples from Tomas. She quickly realizes that he isn’t human, but she doesn’t know what he is.
Chandra has her own issues with closeness. She is married. It was arranged by her parents (as many people have in her culture). She, however, wanted to focus on her career. Her husband was okay with that, because, he too, didn’t want the marriage. He is gay and didn’t want to tell his family. It did leave Chandra wanting. She is still a virgin.
So this was another fun story by Eve Langlais. Tomas is what you think of as a dragon. He has his horde, though it is much different than many others. He that he covets because sentimental value more than dollar value. He has the largest amount gum he was ever able to chew at one time. He also had a turkey he made with a print of his hand when he was a child. He is also arrogant as you can get. He thinks he is the best thing ever.
I enjoyed this installment. It isn’t my favorite story in this series, but it was still fun. I would’ve like a little more story. I found the part when they were captive a little slow. After they escape, it gets better. It does leave me wanting to know what happens in the next book. I want to find out how this all ends up with for all dragons. Tomas pretty much forces them out of the closet, though they have been getting closer to that before Tomas’s little rage.
Narration
Chandra Skyye continues to narrate this series. She does a good job. She does several voices for both men and women. I do think she did a really good job with Tomas’s grandmother.
