Legal Heat is a romantic suspense novel. Katy is our heroine. I was a little mystified by why the author chose to portray this character is such a confusing way. One minute Katy is depending on the case to help her become financially independent and the next she is wearing Manolo Blahniks. Being that she is a lawyer one would think she would have the sense to deny herself Manolo Blahniks to become financially secure. Also she's strong enough to chase down bad guys and discover a few bodies but she can't change the locks on her door to keep her ex-husband out. It was difficult to stick with this character and see it develop because her actions were always contradictory and I never knew just what she would do.
The hero is Mark a lawyer/sex club owner/sex club bartender. I found this to be over the top and unbelievable. He used sugar so many times I almost put the book down and refused to read another page. This comes from an American Southern girl accustomed to hearing the endearment, but the author went into overkill with it in this book.
I loved the intrigue. There were so many twists and turns it made the story interesting. There were some hot sex scenes between Mark and Katy but afterwards he would decide he didn't want a relationship. How many times can they get together, have hot sex everywhere but the bed, and then he decide to walk away? I was thinking perhaps Katy needed to play a little hard to get instead of giving in whenever the urge hit Mark.
So the sex is super hot, so-so romance, and great intrigue. Overall I enjoyed the book, but I can't say it's an experience I would want to repeat.
